Feb 14th. Explained 'Bookface' to group members who were interested in this new initiative and we were pleased to welcome a new member, a long-standing borrower. She enjoyed the discussion (and the company!) very much.
Books discussed (all differing choice this month) were 'The Card' by Arnold Bennett which shows that entrepreneurism was practised in the 1900's, by 'Denry' who begins life in a poor little house where the rent is 23 pence a week. But, before he's 30 has made a lot of money and had more adventures than you and I have had hot dinners. The town of Bursley never stops talking about him, wondering whatever will he do next.
Another choice was 'The Travels of Maudie Tipstaff' by Margaret Forster which is a study in loneliness. It deals with the problems that ordinary people have in finding love and how the loveless people of this world get by in life.
Last - 'The Cosmic Ordering Service' (my orders are due shortly!)
You're supposed to make your orders once and sit back and wait for them to arrive - of course if they don't arrive you may not have ordered them 'in the right way' . It's more about being positive and not letting opportunity pass you by. The fact is , maybe we're afraid to ask for what we really want because it could take us out of our comfort zone and make changes in our familiar situations.
For next month's discussion, we've chosen 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' by Khaled Hosseini and that is the choice for us all.
